Uttoxeter
Uttoxeter is well-known as a market town of great attraction and antiquity, occupying a site probably established in Saxon times. Although many of the town’s buildings were destroyed in the disastrous fires of 1596 and 1672, the town was on each occasion extensively rebuilt and today there are several examples of 17th century architecture.
The Uttoxeter Heritage Centre in Carter Street is housed in a charming group of timber-framed buildings, and the continually changing exhibitions highlight various facets of the town’s development over the centuries.
The visitor to Uttoxeter will find a friendly and prosperous town and one that really comes alive on Wednesdays and Saturdays when the street markets are held.
