Newborough
This is a small compact village with the River Swarbourne running through its centre. Eland Lodge was formerly one of the four lodges belonging to Needwood Forest and Moat Hall farmhouse is a good example of a homestead with a moat. Believed to have been built originally as an outpost of Tutbury Castle sometime prior to 1263, it stands about 350 feet above sea level and commands views over the surrounding attractive countryside.
The custom, and art, of well dressing takes place in the village; three wells being decorated and blessed. The ceremony and accompanying festivities are held every May Day, it is a real village affair.
