Towns & Villages
East Staffordshire is sprinkled with picturesque villages and traditional market towns
The main town of Burton upon Trent is internationally known as the capital of British brewing. The area's hard water makes the 'perfect pint' evidenced by the great names of Bass, Ind Coope, Marstons and Worthington. Not forgetting the 'love it or hate it' product 'Marmite', which has been manufactured in the town for years.
Uttoxeter is known for it's National Hunt Racecourse, home of the Midlands Grand National. It is a busy market town with markets being held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
In the north of the Borough of East Staffordshire lie the Weaver Hills, with their old world villages, panoramic views and historical connections.
In the centre of the Borough is some of the most attractive countryside in the Midlands, where quiet villages abound, complete with homely pubs, places of interest and historic connections. Tutbury is a pretty and historic village where Mary Queen of Scots spent many years in captivity in its Castle.
Several of the villages retain traditions from mediaeval times including the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance held every September and the Dressing of Wells at Newborough in early May.
