East Staffordshire Borough Council is proud to announce that the Olympic Torch will be coming through Burton upon Trent next summer as part of its tour of the country, and everyone is invited to come see the Flame being taken through the town.

The Torchbearers will be coming through Burton on Saturday, June 30th between 7.10am and 8.10am.

Burton is one of over 1,000 villages, towns and cities announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, which is presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. LOCOG has worked closely with representatives from a number of sectors in the West Midlands to devise the route.

Councillor Richard Grosvenor, Leader of the Council, said: “This is very exciting news for the borough and it will give our residents the chance to share in the excitement and the spirit of the London 2012 Olympics as well as putting Burton on the Olympic map.

Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: ‘We are thrilled to confirm that Burton will act as a host location for the Olympic Flame, extending an invitation to people in East Staffordshire to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay during its journey around the UK.

“This is the UK’s moment to shine and I want to encourage people across East Staffordshire to start planning how they can be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity and show their support for the inspirational Torchbearers chosen to carry the Olympic Flame as we count down to the start of the Olympic Games.”
